Acupuncture needles are finer than a human hair, and their insertion is typically painless. Patients often experience different sensations, such as tingling, deep pressure, dull ache, heaviness, or sometimes nothing at all. Some individuals even describe feeling a flow of 'energy' throughout their body or in the treated area. We aim for your treatment to be comfortable and relaxing. If you ever feel any pain or discomfort, please let us know, and we'll adjust your treatment accordingly.
Depending on your health concerns and the type of consultation we determine most appropriate for your case, whether it’s herbal, acupuncture, nutrition, or a combination of several approaches, your initial visit will last approximately 1.5 hours. During this time, we conduct a thorough review of your comprehensive health history to understand the root causes of your issues, not just the symptoms. We’ll also ask additional questions, which may seem unusual, but will help us diagnose your condition according to Chinese Medicine. As part of the diagnostic process, your tongue and pulse will be analyzed using traditional techniques.
Follow-up visits generally last about 45 mins to 1 hour. The frequency of these visits varies widely based on the severity of your condition, the intensity of your pain, and the duration of the problem. Chronic conditions usually take longer to address than recent injuries.
While acupuncture is highly effective for many, it may not be the right solution for every individual. Following your consultation, examination, and initial treatment, we will have a clearer idea of how your condition might respond to our treatment. If we believe our clinic is not the best option for your needs, we will refer you to one of the many excellent doctors in our network to ensure you receive the best care. If we think we can help, we will provide an estimated treatment plan and inform you of the likely number of visits required.
Please wear comfortable clothes and eat something prior to your visit to the clinic to ensure a comfortable experience.
The number of treatments needed varies based on the specific condition of each person. Our primary objective is to help you feel better as quickly as possible. Many issues, particularly straightforward pain conditions, respond rapidly and may be resolved within one to two treatments. For more chronic or internal problems, 4-6 or more visits are often required. Even with long-standing health issues, patients typically experience immediate relief after treatment but may need several additional visits for lasting improvement.
For acupuncture to be most effective, it is recommended to have sessions 1-2 times per week initially. This approach helps to build momentum and achieve lasting results. As your condition improves, the frequency of treatments are reduced accordingly.
No, our needles are never reused. We strictly use single-use needles, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety. After a needle is used, or even once it has been taken out of its package, it is immediately disposed of in a biohazard sharps container. We take your well-being and safety to heart.
At the moment, we do not bill insurance directly but if your insurance provides acupuncture benefits, we will be happy to provide you with a super bill so you can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you do not have acupuncture benefits and are in a financial hardship, please talk to us to discuss a budget plan to make your treatment affordable to you. Remember, acupuncture and herbal medicine can be tax deductible!
